Make your own pet food
Here at Healthy Healing, we love our pets and are heartbroken over the recent animal deaths due to widespread commercial pet food contamination. We send our condolences to everyone who has been affected and offer our prayers for a healthy recovery for the animals who are still sick.
As nutritionists and herbalists, we have long known that most commercial pet foods don't really offer our animal friends "premium" nutrition. In fact, the quality standards for commercial pet foods is notoriously low. Did you know much of the meat that is used in commercial pet food comes from 4-D animals (dead, dying, disabled or diseased animals)? Like us, animals need the live energy of fresh foods and quality, whole ingredients. It takes a little more time and effort to feed your pet fresh foods, but it's well worth it.
For your pet's best health, try this recipe for homemade pet food.
Makes three to four servings. Well tolerated by cats and dogs. Mix together:
- 1 cup high-quality cooked fish, free range chicken or turkey
- 4 tbsp. cooked brown rice or preservative-free kibble (choose brands from the health food store)
- 2 tsp. nutritional yeast
- 1 tsp. green superfood powder like barley grass
- 1 tsp. flax oil
- 1 raw egg
- 1 cup finely chopped vegetables like celery, carrots, or zucchini
- 1 can chicken-rice soup (choose low sodium, nutritious brands from the health food store)
Warm all ingredients for a few minutes on the stove top. Serve according to your pet's size. Your pets will love it! Ours do.

I heard that carrots and tubers in general are very toxic for cats. I see that your recipe includes carrots. Just FYI.
